Versace

This weekend’s Versace show was Donatella’s experiment in simplicity, which the house is most definitely not known for. For the Spring 2015 runway collection, she focused on wearable luxury with minimal detailing, added structure and just enough print and color to keep things interesting. Everything felt casual, and flew under the radar in an unexpected blend of glamour and effortlessness, making this collection one of the brand’s most successful yet.

It seems like we can’t go a week without writing about Cara Delevingne, but we don’t mind considering how obsessed we are with her. Of course, it seems like we’re not the only ones who can’t get our fill of the fun-loving model. John Hardy has picked up the British babe to be the new face of the brand for the jewelry designer’s new Fall 2014 campaign. “There is no denying Cara Delevingne’s appeal; her striking beauty, alluring confidence and effortless cool make her one of a kind. Mr. Van Assche, as the creative director for Dior Homme you deal with beauty all the time. Do you remember the first time you recognized beauty?

No, but I do know that as a child beauty was a big part of my upbringing because my grandmother was a real aesthete and I used to be really close to her. When I was a kid she was making her own clothes and at one point started making clothes for me, so it was already a big part of it when I was like 10 or 12 years old.

What does beauty mean to you?

I don’t really differentiate beauty according to where it comes from. Making a nice table for a nice dinner is nicer than just eating food out of a plastic plate. It’s always been about that little extra effort that makes all the difference. And I think that’s true in all aspects of life.

I enjoyed very much this short  movie. So playful and alive. Beauty appears unexpectedly, like a glimmer of lunacy. It illuminates everything. And for a second, the world seems to rotate around that tiny anomaly.

Film Director Paolo Sorrentino enthusiastically participated in this initiative and selected Piero Messina, his assistant and a graduate of the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, to direct the pilot in which the Oscar winning Director himself is the main character. The video, produced by Indigo Film, is currently online at http://www.framesoflife.com, and on the Armani Facebook page. Messina directed this thrilling and lyrical short film inspired by Louis Ferdinand Céline’s Journey to the End of the Night, and includes unreleased sequences from Sorrentino’s The Great Beauty.
