Again very sensual Calvin Klein’s style. Always recognisable.

While men across the U.S slurp bottles of beer during Sunday’s Super Bowl, they will be faced with a half-naked male model’s chiseled abs and bulging biceps thanks to Calvin Klein.

The brand will run its first-ever Super Bowl commercial, a provocative 30-second ad featuring model Matthew Terry flexing his muscles, while wearing nothing but a pair of Calvin Klein briefs.

These most iconic of  NewYork’s designers have always had a lot in common, and, in recent years, they have become truly great pals and traveling companions. Donna is from Queens (Forest Hills), Calvin is from the Bronx (the Mosholu Parkway section), but today they belong to the globe, which they have been trotting together with increasing frequency. This year is the 20th anniversary of Donna Karan’s quintessential Gothamite brand, DKNY, and so on this occasion, who better to interview DK than CK?

Born near Paris in 1943 to a modest family, he spent his childhood in Le Havre with his mother and four brothers. For his seventeenth birthday, his stepfather bought him his first Eastman Kodak camera. Demarchelier learned how to develop film, retouch negatives and began shooting friends and weddings.

In 1975, he left Paris for New York to follow his girlfriend. He discovered fashionphotography by working as a freelance photographer and learning and working with photographers such as Henri Cartier-Bresson, Terry King, and Jacque Guilbert. His work drew the attention of Elle, Marie Claire and 20 Ans Magazine.

They say there is no such thing as a free meal, but ‘they’ must not know any fashion editors. That thought crossed my mind the last time I visited the San Siro Stadium, as a guest of design duo Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, who happen to boast their own private bar there. Spiffily dressed waiters serve shots of Belvedere vodka, delicious Sicilian reds and pizzas topped with truffles in the bar, ideally located between the halfway line and corner flag, 20ft above the pitch. On my last visit, I had a good natter with Christian Vieri, three footballers’ wives and several even leggier au pairs, wearing Dolce certamente.

“I’m happy here. It’s the best place,” Paolo Maldini told me, as Alexandre Pato and Zlatan Ibrahimovic surged around below us.
